Caltrain tracks to undergo inspection by ‘detector’ car

Tiny flaws in the rails along the Caltrain tracks will be under a microscope this week. A "detector" car will inspect 50 miles of track using ultrasonic equipment to identify minute flaws that are not visible to the naked eye.

The flaws might be a result of manufacturing defects or normal wear and tear. Critical flaws, if found, will be immediately repaired, according to Caltrain.

Most of the work will take place from 10 p.m. to 7 a.m.
