Police seek to talk to man who tried to coax 10-year-old student into his car

Police are seeking the public's help in catching a creep who unsuccessfully tried to get a 10-year-old student into his car in Cole Valley last week, Officer Grace Gatpandan said in a statement.

About 5 p.m. March 6, the 10-year-old was waiting alone at the Muni bus stop at Carl and Cole streets when a black car, described as either a Toyota Yaris or Honda Fit, drove up, Gatpandan said.

The driver tried to lure the student into the car four separate times, but the child declined and instead went to a nearby restaurant to get away from the creep.

The driver is described as a white man about 30 to 40 years old with black slicked-back hair, medium height and weight, with maybe three to four days of facial hair growth, Gatpandan said.

He was wearing either a black or brown shirt and spoke without an accent. Investigators would like to talk to the driver of this vehicle.

Anyone with information on the man can call the sergeant handling the case at Park Station at (415) 242-3088 or the anonymous tip line at (415) 575-4444. Tips can also be texted to TIP411 with “SFPD” at the start of the message.
