Police seek to extinguish trash-can arsonist

An alleged pyromaniac with an apparent hatred for trash bins was arrested last week for setting fire to multiple bins and is suspected of setting other blazes in The City, police said.

A witness told cops he saw the suspect sifting through trash bins around 6:30 a.m. Thursday in the 1500 block of Alemany Boulevard, and then noticed one was on fire, police said.

“Another bin around the location had also been set on fire,” police said.

Arsonists in The City have also been known to torch portable toilets and cars. One guy was accused of trying to set fire to the historic Grace Cathedral.
