Police say Page Street fire started by tenant

A man who lived at an apartment building that erupted in flames Monday is suspected to have started the blaze in which one firefighter was injured, police reported Tuesday.

San Francisco police released a photo and description of Silver Warner, who they say started the three-alarm blaze. No motive for the alleged arson has been released.

Warner is described as a white male, 6 feet 1 inch tall, with a slim build, collar-length brown hair and black-framed glasses. He was last seen wearing a black knit cap, tight jacket, jeans and tennis shoes, and may be carrying a messenger bag, police reported.

San Francisco fire Lt. Ken Smith described the blaze, which was first reported at 5:08 p.m. at 53 Page St., as "stubborn."

Advancing smoke inside the building forced one firefighter to jump out a window to the roof of another building about 12 feet below, injuring his knee and ankle, Smith said.
