Police make arrest in Portola robbery

Police have made an arrest in connection with a robbery in the Portola neighborhood on Wednesday.

On Wednesday morning, about 7:10 a.m., a 53-year-old woman was walking along Silver Avenue near San Bruno Avenue when the suspect in the robbery forcefully grabbed the backpack she was carrying and threw her to the ground, police said.

The thief also tried taking her purse, dragging her along the street, until witnesses began yelling at the suspect to stop.

The thief then fled to a waiting vehicle with the woman's backpack, jacket and lunchbox.

Later in the day, the vehicle and the suspect were located. The suspect was arrested and booked on robbery charges. His identity was unavailable Friday afternoon.

It was originally reported that there were two suspects, but it would appear the second suspect may have been the driver. That suspect remains at large.

The woman sustained only minor injuries in the robbery, police said.
