Police make arrest in Bernal Heights double homicide

Police have arrested a 24-year-old San Francisco man in connection with the deadly Bernal Heights birthday bash.

Pacific Som, 21, and Rathanak Chea, 26, were fatally shot shortly after a brawl erupted Saturday at a birthday party at the Holly Courts public housing project.

A third gunshot victim, a 30-year-old man, survived, police said.

Police detained several people on Saturday for questioning. The next day, inspectors arrested 24-year-old Keo Sobera at the Hall of Justice, where he was being held, police spokesman Sgt. Michael Andraychak said Monday.

He is being charged for Som's murder, Andraychak said.

Police are still searching for Chea's killer, he said.

A witness told cops that four men were beating up a man when his friend fired a bullet into the air, hoping to scare the attackers.

A short time later, friends of the attackers began firing weapons. Police said late Saturday that they had detained multiple suspects. An arrest has not yet been reported.

The murders marked the 23rd and 24th homicides of 2011, Esparza said.
