The police investigation into an alleged domestic violence incident involving San Francisco Sheriff-elect Ross Mirkarimi is ongoing, according to District Attorney George Gascón, who said Friday that “the case has not been presented to us.”

Gascón, who was briefed on the incident, said that “we are waiting for the police investigation. Once the investigation is presented to us we’ll evaluate the case and we will do so as would do any other case involving domestic violence. And we will go from there.”

Meanwhile, those around City Hall are tightlipped about what happened and reluctant to discuss the affair. The news reports about the incident come just a few days before Mirkarimi’s swearing in ceremony on Sunday.

“It creates a very awkward situation,” Democratic strategist Nathan Ballard said. “These allegations have stolen the thunder from what should be a celebration.”

Mirkarimi, who is officially the District 5 supervisor until noon on Sunday, was nowhere to be seen at City Hall. His office was quiet. One legislative aide was manning the phones while maintenance staff was repainting the office, preparing for the new supervisor who Mayor Ed Lee plans to appoint Monday.
