Police investigating burglary in the Mission where 4-year-old boy was found

Police are investigating a burglary in the Mission early Monday morning in which officers discovered a 4-year-old boy who is possibly related to the suspects, Officer Grace Gatpandan said in a statement.

Officers responded to the 100 block of 27th Street near Guerrero Street about 2:13 a.m. regarding a burglary in progress in a building under construction, Gatpandan said.

Witnesses reportedly told police they could hear the sounds of people running and other noises in the building.

Officers found that the entrances to the building were unsecured.

When the suspects realized police were there, Gatpandan said, they attempted to flee.

One of the suspects tried to flee the area by running along rooftops and was reportedly injured in the process. The suspect then hid until he was found by a U.S. Park Police dog, Gatpandan said.

The second suspect reportedly ran out of the building right into police custody.

At that point, the building was cleared and no other suspects were found inside.

However, during the course of their investigation, officers discovered a 4-year-old boy who they believe is somehow related to the suspects. He was taken to the hospital, although it is unclear if he was injured.
