Police investigate SF's 10th homicide of 2015 after body parts found in suitcase

San Francisco police are investigating the discovery of human body parts in a suitcase found Wednesday. Officers responded at 4:14 p.m. to the area of 11th Street between Market and Mission streets on reports of a suspicious package.

Police discovered a suitcase containing human remains and located more remains during an ensuing search of the area.

It was unclear if the remains belonged to one victim, police said.

Eleventh Street was shut down from Market Street to Howard Street and Mission Street was closed from South Van Ness Avenue to 10th Street as homicide investigators worked the scene.

The incident brings San Francisco's homicide total to 10 so far this year, police said.

Police plan on releasing a suspect description once more information is available.

Officers were able to obtain a distinct suspect description, but are not releasing it until they are actively attempting to locate the person of interest, police said.

Police have not released the exact time the suitcase was brought to 11th Street.
