Police identify man found dead, burned in Buena Vista Park

A young man whose body was found burned and dumped in a recycling bin at Buena Vista Park earlier this month was identified by police Friday as 23-year-old Freddy Roberto Canul-Arguello.

Homicide inspectors are asking for the public’s help in solving the horrific crime.

Canul-Arguello’s body was found by firefighters responding to the tennis courts at the park in the early morning of June 10. When they arrived, they found a blue plastic recycling bin aflame.

The gruesome discovery was made shortly after 4:30 a.m. near Buena Vista Avenue East and Haight Street.

“When they extinguished the fire, they found the body” inside the bin, police spokesman Sgt. Mike Andraychak said.

Police have not said how Canul-Arguello is believed to have been killed.

Canul-Arguello was a San Francisco restaurant worker and left behind “a large and loving family,” police said.
