Police ID man killed in hit-run bike crash

A 21-year-old foreigner was struck and killed while riding a bicycle in the Panhandle on Friday night and has been identified as Nils Linke.

Linke was riding a bike near Turk and Masonic streets around 10:40 p.m. when a 38-year-old man driving a Mercedes allegedly struck him but kept driving and was arrested two blocks later, according to police.

Police on Sunday morning had not yet released the name of the suspect, who is being charged with vehicular manslaughter.

The Medical Examiner could not confirm where Linke is from or whether he was visiting or a student, but did say his permanent address is outside the U.S.
