Police end hunt for trigger-happy hoodlum

A man evaded cops after firing a gun in plain sight of patrolling officers Thursday morning in the Sunnydale public housing projects, police said.

The gunman was not aiming at cops and no one was injured, police said.

The officers witnessed the gunplay around 8:10 p.m. while on routine patrol, police Sgt. Troy Dangerfield said. They chased after the suspect, who fled on foot, Dangerfield said.

They searched for a victim, but no one was found. A two-hour search for the suspect also proved fruitless. Cops combed an area between Blythdale Avenue, Brookdale Avenue and Sanchez Street, police said.

The search was called off around 10 a.m., Dangerfield said.

Cops said they found a gun and drugs in the area, but it was not immediately known if they were related to the shooting.
