Police Commission to look gift horse in the mouth

When the Police Commission reconvenes Wednesday, one of its first duties will be to approve the donation of a 10-year-old “paint/quarter horse gelding” to the department’s mounted unit.

The horse, valued at $7,500, is a gift from a certain Mr. Von D. Vaugh, according to the commission agenda. The valuable gift needs approval from the commission.

Let’s hope the mounted division checks out the horse as well. The horses, which are used especially in crowd control situations, need to be able to keep their cool. The department is currently dealing with a lawsuit stemming from a 2008 incident.
