Police Commission moves from Tasers to sit-lie

If you enjoyed the political theater provided by the Police Commission on the issue of Tasers, just wait until Wednesday when the divided commissioners discuss a proposed sit-lie ordinance.

The controversial ordinance has already had its day at a Board of Supervisors committee hearing, but now the commission will take on the topic just weeks after one commissioner chastised police Chief George Gascon for taking his ideas to the public without the commission’s approval.

Also, Mayor Gavin Newsom in his YouTube address this week toned down the rhetoric and said he wants to listen to both sides of the debate on sit-lie.

“If we’re wrong and we’re proven wrong, let’s own up to it, but give us a chance to try something differently and see if we can make a difference,” he said of the controversial law.
