Police called to talk man down after alleged Bayview chicken theft

People should know better than to mess with a man’s food.

A man was taken into custody Tuesday after threatening to harm himself after he claimed someone in his Bayview apartment building stole and ate his chicken, police said.

The 50-year-old connoisseur reportedly walked through his apartment complex in the 1600 block of Oakdale Avenue around 8:13 a.m. wielding a knife in each hand as he investigated the delectable chicken’s disappearance, police said.

The hungry man then began making threats that he would kill himself if he didn’t find out who ate his chicken, police Sgt. Daryl Fong said. The man barricaded himself in his apartment until police arrived. Initially he refused to talk to police.

“He was upset,” Fong said.

The department’s hostage negotiation team was called and was able to lure the man out of his apartment where he surrendered without incident and was taken to a local hospital for evaluation, Fong said.

Police could not confirm that someone had actually stolen and eaten the man’s chicken, they said.

“The role of the chicken is unknown at this juncture,” Fong said.
