Police Blotter: S.F. neighborhood crime log 

These are excerpts from the daily log of activities for the San Francisco Police Department, selected by Examiner editors.

Glen Park, Bernal Heights, Excelsior, St. Francis Wood

Roommate stabbed: Officers responded to a residence on the first block of Massasoit Street shortly after noon Wednesday where a drunken roommate had brandished a knife and threatened the victim with death. They arrested the suspect for weapons threats and confiscated the knife.

Fouled out: A 17-year-old from the 300 block of Hamilton was arrested in the basketball courts on the 900 block of Ellsworth Street at 12:31 p.m. Tuesday for a robbery and assault that had taken place several days previously.

Busted on bus: A Muni driver finished his route at 50 Phelan Ave. and observed someone sleeping in the back of the bus at 6:04 p.m. Tuesday. He asked the suspect to disembark, and was struck with a wooden mallet. The suspect, who lives on the 1600 block of Shafter Avenue, was ejected from the bus and the driver closed the doors. The suspect then picked up a metal pipe and broke several bus windows. Officers located the suspect 40 minutes later near the scene of the crime and arrested him on multiple charges.

Mission district, Noe Valley

Amok arsenal: Witnesses reported that a suspect punched out the glass window of an apartment building entry door on the 3200 block of 16th Street and threatened tenants with a handgun at 2 a.m. March 25. Officers observed a pool of blood in the hallway and were directed to a specific apartment where the suspect was bleeding profusely from a hand wound. He refused to follow verbal commands and was wrestled to the ground, losing two knives in the process. A gun was found in his pants pocket and an apartment search revealed additional ammunition, a bulletproof jacket and various types of narcotics, including crack cocaine. He was arrested on numerous illegal-possession charges.

Strong-arm robbery: A citizen flagged down patrol officers on the 2200 block of Mission Street and pointed out the two fleeing suspects who had just stolen his iPod at 2:10 a.m. March 23. The suspects were arrested and the victim’s iPod was returned.

Cocaine fracas: Patrol officers came upon a drug transaction on the 100 block of Shotwell Street at 4:27 p.m. March 19. The seller launched into a violent struggle as sheriff’s deputies and additional police officers responded for assistance. When the suspect was eventually handcuffed, a large quantity of cocaine was found in his possession and he was discovered to be on probation for a previous narcotics arrest.

Financial District, Nob Hill, Chinatown, North Beach, Russian Hill, Telegraph Hill

Concentrating on crime: A 22-year-old burglar was so intent on ripping a stereo from the dashboard of a car parked on the 600 block of Leavenworth Street that he did not notice two police officers who quietly came up behind him at 3:40 a.m. March 30. The officers took the suspect into custody and got him treated for his bloody hands from the broken car window.

Bicycle getaway: An officer on the Fisherman’s Wharf beat was flagged down by an auto burglary witness on the 2400 block of Powell Street at 12:20 p.m. March 26. The 29-year-old male suspect was attempting to flee on a bicycle. He dropped his backpack of stolen property and was nabbed at Jefferson and Hyde streets with the help of Muni police officers.

South of Market, Embarcadero, China Basin

Weed littering: A loitererin Hallidie Plaza on Fifth and Market streets discarded his marijuana when he noticed an officer approaching at 5 p.m. March 27. The suspect was also found to possess 20 rocks of crack cocaine and was arrested on the spot.

Cole Valley, Haight, Castro, Twin Peaks, Panhandle

Motorcycle showoff: A caller told police he had just recognized a motorcycle stolen from his friend being ridden on Oak and Stanyan streets at 5:30 p.m. April 1. Responding officers found a group standing around the bike and the suspect holding a can of gas. The suspect claimed he was putting gas into a friend’s bike, and the backpack and jacket tied to the bike belonged to him. While the suspect was being booked, methamphetamine and marijuana were found on his person, which added to the charges filed against him.

Parolee seeks pot: Plainclothes officers in the area of Haight and Stanyan streets at 8 p.m. March 29 overheard a man asking passers-by where he could find some marijuana for sale. The plainclothes officers identified themselves and detained the suspect. A warrant check revealed he was a wanted parolee. He was placed under arrest.

In the grass: A Golden Gate Park beat officer passing through Sharon Meadows at 10:12 a.m. March 27 watched someone he had arrested in the past for drug sales bend to pick up what appeared to be packaged marijuana secreted in the grass. The suspect greeted the officer by name and said the packet was merely his personal stash. The officer took him into custody and found him possessing additional packaged narcotics.
