Police: Arsonist sets Christmas tree on fire in the Mission, scorches nearby doors

This is not the way to light a Christmas tree.

In a pertinent reminder to dispose of Christmas trees properly, two doors of a building in the Mission were scorched on Tuesday after a petty arsonist set one ablaze, police said Wednesday.

The unknown arsonist set a Christmas tree on fire in the 500 block of South Van Ness Avenue some time before 11:30 p.m., police said. The fire spread and burned two nearby doors.

The fire was out by the time of the arrival of firefighters, who further contained the situation.

There is no known suspect in the arson.
