San Mateo police have made an arrest in the Feb. 18 incident where a man solicited sex from a 15-year-old girl.

Police were able to identify the suspect through the use of social media, they said. After the incident on the unit block of North Claremont Street where the suspect approached the girl and solicited her for sex, police were able to obtain video surveillance of the suspect from a nearby store.

The images obtained from the video were published on various social media platforms with a request for the public's help. Two additional victims, 12-year-old girls from San Mateo, replied to the requests via Facebook and told police the suspect had inappropriate contact with them.

Detectives were able to ultimately identify the suspect as 41-year-old Robert Guadalupe Micalax of San Mateo.

Micalax, knowing that he was wanted for questioning in the case, contacted a police officer on Wednesday and he was arrested.

Micalax was booked into county jail on charges of child annoyance, solicitation for sex in public and assault with the intent to commit a sex crime.
