Police: Armed robber might have shot himself in the leg

A 21-year-old man who had been shot in the leg was arrested early Thursday morning in connection with an armed robbery, and police say the gunshot wound might have been self-inflicted.

Police responded to the area of 23rd and Valencia streets around 3 a.m., where a 40-year-old man was robbed at gunpoint by two men. The thieves took his wallet, smartphone and watch.

Nearby, at 23rd and Bartlett streets, one of the thieves appeared to have shot himself with a handgun, police said. It’s unclear how that happened.

He was arrested and treated at San Francisco General Hospital for non-life threatening injuries.

Officer Grace Gatpandan said the other man was initially detained but did not know whether he was arrested or not in connection with the robbery.
