Plaque commemorates 50th

The Giants will commemorate the 50th anniversary of the first Major League Baseball game played in San Francisco and on the West Coast with the unveiling of a bronze plaque at the corner of 16th and Bryant streets — the site of the team’s first stadium — today at 10:30 a.m.

Willie Mays, Orlando Cepeda and other alumni from the 1958 team will join Giants Managing General Partner Peter Magowan for the event.

A separate pre-game ceremony will be held at home plate at AT&T Park prior to today’s 1:35 p.m. game between the Giants and Arizona Diamondbacks to honor Horace Stoneham, the owner who moved the club from New York.
