Plans for new berthing facility on Pier 9 likely to move forward

The plan to bring a new berthing facility for regional ferry service on the Embarcadero is likely to move forward on Thursday.

The San Francisco Water Emergency Transportation Authority (WETA) is in the midst of expanding the Bay Area’s ferry service, and to help accommodate the increased travel, the agency wants to build mooring facilities, floats, and a gangway next to its Pier 9 headquarters in San Francisco.

At its meeting on Thursday, the WETA Board of Directors will vote on starting the request for proposal (RFP) process for potential construction firms, a move that would initiate the beginning of the project.
