Plane lands safely on freeway in Woodside

A plane landed safely on Interstate Highway 280 on Sunday evening, but a car was damaged after it was clipped by the descending Cessna, according to the Federal Aviation Administration.

The plane, a Cessna 210 that had just taken from San Carlos airport, was conducting a photo mission when it lost engine power, FAA spokesman Allen Kenitzer said.

It made an emergency landing on northbound 280 just north of Farm Hill Boulevard around 7:15 p.m., and the left main landing gear broke the rear window of a moving vehicle.

No one was injured, and the aircraft was not damaged in the landing, Kenitzer said.

The plane ended up on the right-hand shoulder of the freeway and was not blocking traffic, according to the highway patrol
