PG&E unveils solar-powered billboard in S.F.

Pacific Gas and Electric Co. revealed the nation’s first solar-powered billboard Monday in San Francisco, officials announced.

The billboard is at 1000 Brannan St. and is part of the company’s "We Can Do This" campaign to bring awareness about PG&E’s commitment to the environment.

"With this solar-powered billboard — the nation’s first — we increase the amount of clean, renewable energy we provide our customers," said Greg Pruett, senior vice president of corporate relations. "We also hope to capture the imagination of Americans about the actionable steps one can take to reduce their environmental impact."

The billboard is visible from the Ninth Street exit of U.S. Highway 101. It is outfitted with 20 solar modules that can provide up to 3.4 kilowatts of renewable solar energy to the PG&E grid, officials said.
