Perfect finish

Lauren Bell scored 13 points to lead the host Sacred Heart Cathedral girls’ basketball team to a history-making 64-38 West Catholic Athletic League win over Presentation.

Playing in one of the best girls’ basketball leagues in the state, the Irish (22-2, 14-0) became the first boys’ or girls’ basketball team to go undefeated in WCAL regular-season play. They took control early Friday as Jazmine Jackson scored eight of her 10 points in a 20-4 first-quarter run.

"[To go undefeated] is a great accomplishment because it’s such a great league and all the games are tough," Sacred Heart coach Brian Harrigan said. "I’m really proud of the kids."

The Irish won their league games by an average of 23.9 points per game, held 10 of their 14 opponents to less than 40 points and allowed more than 43 just once (a 49-46 overtime win over St. Ignatius). The Irish are 40-2 in regular-season league play over the last three seasons.

Sacred Heart Cathedral will likely host Sacred Heart Prep Tuesday in the first round of the WCAL playoffs.
