Peninsula woman accused of stabbing husband in life insurance scheme in court

The Peninsula wife accused of wrapping Bubble Wrap around her body before attacking her husband with a stun gun and knife as part of a vicious life insurance cash grab is set to enter her plea on Thursday.

Laura Jean Wenke, 50, of Los Altos, faces life in prison in connection to the alleged Sept. 15 attack brought on by bitter divorce proceedings, according to San Mateo County prosecutors.

The pair have an 8-year-old son together and had a construction business in Redwood City. Wenke went into a jealous rage after learning her husband had a new gal pal, District Attorney Steve Wagstaffe said.

She allegedly stabbed him in the neck and chest with her eye on a $2 million dollar life insurance policy, Wagstaffe said. At the time, Wenke was still listed as the beneficiary.

According to prosecutors, she stormed into the business wearing a mechanics jumpsuit with Bubble Wrap underneath. She shocked her husband with a stun gun as he was sitting at the computer, and then stabbed him, Wagstaffe said.

The husband survived the attack.

Wenke is in custody on no bail status.
