Peninsula: Supes honor Fire Dept on anniversary

The San Mateo County Board of Supervisors honored the Daly City Fire Department on Tuesday for its 100th anniversary. The department was recognized as a historic entity in the aftermath of the 1906 earthquake, in which scores of people migrated south from San Francisco after the disaster.

In 1911, Daily City was incorporated; the fire department was already formed, with 60 hydrants and three 1,000-gallon water tanks installed. In 2003, the department assumed administrative leadership after the formation of the North County Fire Authority, which includes Brisbane and Pacifica.

Accused bank robber enters not guilty plea in heist case

Phillip Guerra, 30, pleaded not guilty Tuesday to anAug. 7 robbery of a Bank of America on Marshall Street. Prosecutors say he handed the teller a note and made off with $3,000.

He walked to the Redwood City train station, boarded a train and rode until he was apprehended at the Belmont station. Prosecutors say there was a tracking device in the bag with the money, and Guerra was found with the demand note still on his person. A preliminary hearing was set for Aug. 27.
