Daly City

$9,000 jackpot: A thief got lucky when he broke the window of a 2004 Chevy 2500 pickup truck parked overnight Aug. 26 on the 1000 block of Schwerin Street.

Inside the vehicle was a $7,000 Leica surveyor tool, a $1,500 Compaq laptop computer and a $400 Olympus Stylus digital camera.

Oops, wrong restroom: A man was seen hiding for 15 minutes inside the women’s locker room of 24 Hour Fitness at 373 Gellert Blvd., at 9:50 p.m. Aug. 26.

His explanation was that he badly had to go to the toilet and did not realize he was in the wrong place.

He then ran away in an unknown direction.

Redwood City

Glaze graffiti: Unknown taggers spray-painted gang graffiti on the rear wall of Golden Glaze Bakery, 1509 Main St., sometime overnight Aug. 23.

Kidnap threat: Police failed to trace the perpetrators of an alleged kidnap-extortion threat against a recent female arrival from Ohio who was told via cell phone at 3:52 p.m. Aug. 26 that her boyfriend had been abducted and her car stolen.

Officers obtained Sprint GPS tracking of the cell phone’s shifting locations but lost track of the suspects in East Palo Alto.

Millbrae

Homeless encampment: An abandoned homeless encampment was discovered among bushes on the 899 block of Millbrae Avenue at 2:26 p.m. Aug. 29.

San Mateo

Predator alert: A witness called in a report of observing a short-haired man in a small, red vehicle following a young girl along 26th and Isabelle avenues and then trying to talk to her at 4:50 p.m. Aug. 27.

IV patient on loose: A hospital called to alert police that an infection patient had left without permission at 5:24 p.m. Aug. 27, and when last seen on the 3800 block of Kenwood Avenue, his intravenous needle and tube were still attached to his arm.
