These are excerpts from Peninsula police departments’ daily log of activities. Incidents are listed by city.

Burlingame

Boom bust: Someone said a bomb was going to go off in a restaurant on the 1200 block of Bayshore Highway at 8:15 during the evening of Jan. 17.

Daly City

Sounding the alarm: A caller told police at 3:46 p.m. Jan. 20 that someone attempted to steal his blue two-door 1996 Honda Civic from the unit block of Wakefield Avenue. The would-be thief took the car cover off and jimmied the vehicle, which caused the car alarm to sound. The unsuccessful thief was last seen in a dark-colored, early- or mid-’90s model Honda Civic with unknown license plate and modified exhaust going toward Classic Bowl. The callers’s Honda had no damage or loss of property.

Signs, signs, everywhere were signs: A real estate agent reported that six Coldwell Banker signs were stolen sometime between 2 p.m. Jan. 19 and 1 p.m. Jan. 20. The signs had been advertising an open house on the unit block of Canterbury.

The signs, which were worth a combined total of $550, were taken from the intersections of Callan and Morton, Victoria and Callan, Gellert and Victoria, Hickey and Callan, and King and Callan.

San Mateo

A danger to himself: A caller from the Hillsdale Mall requested police at 11:51 a.m. Jan. 20 for assistance since he had an elderly man detained for allegedly shoplifting. The caller also told police that the subject was hitting himself and could hurt himself.

South City

That smarts: A person was assaulted with a crowbar to his head on Kent Way at 11:13 p.m. Jan. 16. A suspect was arrested and transported by California Highway Patrol.

Redwood City

Unwelcome guest: A hotel manager called about a female guest wearing a dark-colored shirt and jeans on the third floor who was yelling, waking other guests and banging fire extinguishers against the wall at 3:01 a.m. Jan. 20. Manager met officers in the lobby. Subject was taken to Chope Hospital.
