Peninsula: Pet store seeks damages from city for flooding

During a closed session Wednesday, city leaders will consider a claim filed against them by San Mateo Pet Supply.

Store owners allege that the city’s sewer system backed up into their 346 El Camino Real shop on March 27, causing toilets to overflow and flood the store.

San Mateo Pet Supply is seeking $25,000 in damages, primarily due to revenue the store lost while it was closed for repairs, according to a claim filed with Redwood City.

Area earns honor at fair for energy-reduction exhibit

The county earned the top honor for its exhibit highlighting efforts to reduce energy consumption and showcasing its natural beauty. The exhibit "San Mateo County: The Green Leader" includes a model home equipped with recycled, salvaged and sustainable building materials and energy-efficient features such as solar panels.

Another section of the exhibit includes a 15-foot-tall replica of Pigeon Point Lighthouse.
