Peninsula: Highway 101 tree collision injures one

A woman was airlifted to Stanford Hospital on Wednesday afternoon after a vehicle accident on northbound Highway 101 near Whipple Avenue in Redwood City.

The woman, in her mid-50s, was driving a gold-colored Honda. She swerved to avoid hitting a white Cadillac and veered from the fast lane to the right shoulder, where her car struck a tree, said California Highway Patrol Officer Grace Castillo.

A toddler, who was secured in a child safety seat in the Honda, was not injured. Because the Cadillac driver left the scene, the CHP is asking any witnesses to call (650) 369-6261 to report what they saw.

Habitat for Humanity project recommended for approval

The Planning Commission recommended Habitat for Humanity’s two-home project on Parkview Avenue for approval by the City Council.

The project would see two new below-market-rate, detached, single-family homes built on the southwest corner of Parkview Avenue and Miriam Street.

The site was formerly the Parkview Clubhouse, which was moved down the street several years ago after 65 years at 101 Parkview.

The council will vote on the Habitat for Humanity project Sept. 10, according to the Planning Department.

City Council summer recess will commence this month

The Millbrae City Council will be going on recess for the month of August. The board will not have another meeting until Sept. 11.

There are several hot-button items scheduled to come up next month, including a report from Southern California developer Chuck Fancher, who has an exclusive agreement to develop the high-profile Site One property near the Millbrae BART station. He said he expects to announce the financial partner backing the project at the end of the month.
