Peninsula: Board of Supes to honor Bonds

San Francisco Giants slugger Barry Bonds will be honored by the San Mateo Board of Supervisors at their weekly meeting this morning.

Supervisors are expected to pass a resolution by Board President Rose Jacobs Gibson commending Bonds for becoming the new all-time home run leader.

Bonds made history Aug. 7 after hitting his 756th home run, surpassing the previous Major League record by Hank Aaron. He hit his 757th home run on Wednesday and his 758th on Friday. Bonds attended San Mateo’s Junipero Serra High School.

PACIFICA

SamTrans to expand service on Route 14

Pacifica bus riders will be able to stay out later and travel on Sunday, thanks to an expansion in SamTrans service.

Beginning this Sunday, Route 14 will run later on weekdays until 10 p.m. Saturday service will run every hour instead of the current two-hour schedule, and will run until 9 p.m. SamTrans will also add Sunday service to the route, with 10 daily trips.

The expansion in service was made possible by a grant from the City/County Association of Governments of San Mateo County, and funding from SamTrans.

BELMONT

Council expected to approve waiver of fees for solar panels

Tonight, the Belmont City Council is set in its consent calendar to approve the waiver of fees that are charged for the installation of solar panels. The permits once cost $900 to $1,100, but that was lowered to less than $400 in December 2006.

The complete waiver of the fees will ideally encourage more residents to install the solar panels in their homes, and will only cost the city $7,400 in annual revenue.

The council decided to waive the fees at a meeting in July, but asked city staff to look at the fiscal impact before it was made into law.
