Peninsula: Apply now to join City Services course 

There are only two weeks left to apply for the Fall 2007 City Services course, a hands-on crash course in municipal governments and city functions.

The first class begins Wednesday, Aug. 29 at 6 p.m. Classes are every Wednesday from 6 to 9 p.m. There is also a single Saturday session on Sept. 22 from 8 a.m. to noon. Graduation will be held on Nov. 14 at 6 p.m. in a to-be-determined location.

Menlo Park

Special session to address future of Park Theater

Locals are hoping to rescue and restore the historic Park Theater, once one of the most popular movie houses in San Mateo County.

The City Council will hold a special session Monday at 2 p.m. at City Hall to discuss committing $500,000 to its restoration and preservation. Resident Andy Duncan, who owns the building, has proposed turning it into a dance studio for the long-running Menlo Park Academy of Dance.

S.F. Airport

Examples of Bay Area design excellence to be displayed

A new exhibit, called "Prototype to Product: Thirty-three Projects from the Bay Area Design Community," is now on display at San Francisco International Airport.

The display, presented by iDSA SF and the San Francisco Airport Museum, features preliminary sketches and drawings, detailed illustrations and finished products including an Oral-B toothbrush and a GPS receiver.

The free exhibit is located post-security in Boarding Area F for ticketed travelers. An opening reception was held recently at the San Francisco Airport Museum; the exhibition will run through January.
