Pelosi’s posh office: House Speaker’s San Francisco rent quadrupled to $18,736

WHAT: House Speaker Nancy Pelosi’s $18,736 monthly rent for San Francisco district offices is the highest in the lower chamber of Congress and almost double the runner-up, a Manhattan congressman.

MOVING UP: Pelosi’s rent quadrupled when she moved from the Burton Federal Building — after 20 years — into a one-third larger space at the newer federal high rise on Seventh Street, just south of Market Street.

WHY: Pelosi’s spokesman said that as speaker of the House, she needed the larger quarters, more central location and enhanced security available at Seventh Street’s 3-year-old federal office annex.
