Paterson drops his re-elect bid 

Democrat Gov. David Paterson of New York is calling it quits, choosing not to run for re-election, the New York Daily News reports.

Paterson has been under fire for having contacted a woman who accused one of his top aides of domestic violence....The decision clears the way for Attorney General Andrew Cuomo, who is the favorite of many Democrats, to seek the nomination unimpeded.
