Partial list of things named after the monumental Robert C. Byrd

With his passage, the nonogenarian West Virginia senator (may he rest in peace) leaves behind a proud legacy of pork — and an entire state filled with things named after himself and his wife. WVNS has the most comprehensive list I’ve seen anywhere. I’ll excerpt the transportation portion:

The Robert C. Byrd Appalachian Highway System

Robert C. Byrd Bridge linking Huntington with Chesapeake, Oh.

Robert C. Byrd Drive between Beckley and Byrd’s hometown of Sophia

Robert C. Byrd Expressway near Weirton

Robert C. Byrd Locks and Dam across the Ohio River in Mason County

Robert C. Byrd Inter-modal Transportation Center in Wheeling.

Note that the complete list is about four times as long as this. Perhaps now they’ll rename the state after him.
