Parks chief could spawn 34 recreation councils

All 25 recreation centers and nine swimming pools could have their own mini-governances soon and parks chief Phil Ginsburg will be their reporting party to commissioners.

Park officials might create 34 community recreation councils with seven members each who live within a one mile radius of each location to report to a liaison council between them and Ginsburg.

The liaison council, the Recreation Advisory Council, would have nine members: two with a specialty in each recreational competency, appointed by Ginsburg, and one Rec and Park Commissioner.

It’s an idea that commissioners are going to hear about at their regular meeting Thursday, then vote to adopt in the fall.
