Parkmerced plans to be put under microscope

A plan to nearly triple the number of apartments at the Parkmerced complex will be discussed.

The San Francisco Planning Commission is scheduled to hold a hearing about the future of the 116-acre site, which is between 19th Avenue and Lake Merced, at 3:30 p.m. Thursday in Room 400 at City Hall.

The proposed project would grow the complex from 3,221 apartments to 8,900 units over roughly 30 years. The work involves demolishing some existing buildings and building new ones.

The commission on Thursday is not scheduled to cast any votes in relation to the project.
