Parkmerced development vote postponed until next week

A vote on the massive Parkmerced development was postponed to next Tuesday by the Board of Supervisors Land Use and Economic Development Committee.

And while the vote was postponed, people came out to testify for and against the development. Current tenants were critical of the proposal expressing criticism of losing the way things are and fears they would not have rent-controlled units to move back into once the work was complete -- as had been promised.

But supporters welcome the development as a way to rejuvenate the area, create jobs and provide thousands of much needed new housing units.

Supervisor Eric Mar said the postponement Monday had to do with public noticing requirements and not reflective of concerns committee members might have about the development.
