Park Station police captain assumes command of Bayview Station

Police Capt. Raj Vaswani on Friday became the seventh captain since 2007 to leave his post at the Park Police Station.

Police on Friday announced Vaswani would leave his command at the Park station to replace veteran Capt. Robert O’Sullivan at the Bayview Police Station.

O’Sullivan, who was promoted to commander of the Golden Gate Patrol, announced the transition in the Bayview station newsletter, where he thanked his patrons for years of support and welcomed Vaswani. O’Sullivan will replace Cmdr. Garrett Tom.

“Captain Vaswani has a wealth of experience having served in patrol, investigative, and administrative assignments,” O’Sullivan said in the newsletter.

Booksmith owner Christin Evans, who represents the Haight on the Community-Police Advisory Board, praised Vaswani at Police Commission meeting Wednesday.

“Capt. Vaswani had a very strong orientation toward community policing, he was not afraid of getting out of his office to work with his beat officers to get a sense of what the issues were in his district,” Evans said. “It’s very disappointing that Park station will see its seventh captain in eight years.”

Vaswani became captain of the Park station in July when Capt. Greg Corrales retired.

Other recent changes to command staff in the SFPD have included transitions at the Southern station, where Capt. Jerome DeFilippo took over after William Roulades retired and Michael Redmond was promoted.
