Parents arrested for leaving crying 3-year-old daughter in car

San Francisco parents are facing drug and child endangerment charges for allegedly leaving their hysterically crying 3-year-old daughter in their car with only one window slightly open.

Around 4:30 p.m. Friday, a 14-year-old girl called police after spotting the child strapped inside a car seat in the vehicle, which was parked in the 2300 block of 37th Avenue.

Police say the one open window was rolled down only an inch, police said.

An officer who ran the license plate learned the car was parked in front of the registered owner’s home. They knocked, and the 3-year-old’s father answered.

The dad unlocked the car. Police removed the girl and called an ambulance.

The father told an officer he left his child in the car because “she had been sleeping.”

Police say both parents were on probation. Officers said they found methamphetamine while searching their home.

The 3-year-old was taken to child protective services. Both parents were arrested.
