Authorities warn residents about ‘pigeon drop’ scheme

The San Carlos Police Department is issuing a fraud alert after two robbers attempted to rob an elderly man on Monday with a "pigeon drop" scheme.

An 84-year-old man told police that he was in the Trader Joe’s parking lot, located at 1482 El Camino Real, when a man approached him and asked to be driven to a nearby fast food restaurant.

The victim was encouraged to withdraw money from a bank, which he declined to do.

Police advise never to engage in fiscal transactions with strangers.
