Ottewell from Gomez goes solo

Attention, all Gomez acolytes.

The UK folk-rock outfit has quietly amassed a faithful cult audience that appreciates the subtle interplay between the group’s three diverse vocalists.

But it’s Ben Ottewell’s resonant tones that usually stop the show, from early signatures like “Get Miles” to later gems like “How We Operate.” So there should be much rejoicing that the man is at long last issuing his solo debut, “Shapes & Shadows,” via Dave MatthewsATO Records on Feb. 15, with a full North American tour to follow.

Ottewell co-penned the nine-song “Shapes” with his childhood pal (an ex-Tunng member) Sam Genders, and co-produced it with Will Golden.

Not enough songs, you say? Wait — there’s more.

A five-track digital EP will also be arriving on release day, featuring four acoustic versions plus a special cover song, and it will also be available in a special T-shirt bundle.

Another reason to be cheerful this season — you only have a month to wait for your all-Ottewell fest!
