Orzag: Bending health care cost curve may take decades

Associated Press:

The White House budget director said Wednesday that it may take decades for America to have an efficient health care system even if Congress passes a major overhaul this year.

"It will be years to decades" before the nation has a properly working health care system that rewards quality over quantity, Peter Orszag told reporters.

Yes, because as we know from Medicare nearly 45 years later, government health programs get cheaper and more efficient over time. Also, the CBO concluded this week that even with the Democrats' health care "reforms", insurance premiums will continue to rise at a "status quo" of 5 to 6 percent per year for 83 percent of Americans.

Anyone in Congress care to take a crack at a more immediate solution to bringing health care costs down? Anyone?
