On the lookout for ‘flavorologists’

Nestlé Ice Cream is inviting 10 children to be a "flavorologist" for a day at its top-secret flavor lab in Southern California.

The selected kids win an all-expenses-paid trip to the ice cream facility, where they’ll get a behind-the-scenes tour, learn the science behind frozen treats and test their taste buds on new flavor pop creations.

To try out, kids between ages 6 and 12 must submit their idea for their best frozen pop, including a name, shape and flavor description. Send it by U.S. mail by July 27 to "Flavorologist for a Day," Nestle Ice Cream, 5929 Colllege Ave., Oakland, CA, 94618. To enter online or get more details, visit www.icecream.com.

Among last year’s winning flavors were "Bananasaurus Rex Blast," a banana pop in a chocolate shell dusted with cherry Pop Rocks, and "Pink Princess Fluff," a strawberry pop with whipped cream and sparkles.
