In a case of low-cost carriers expanding as most airlines flail, JetBlue announced Thursday that it would offer flights from San Francisco International Airport to Long Beach.

Beginning Oct. 18, the airline will run two daily flights on the route, with a third being added Nov. 2, company officials said.

The flights will start at $49 one-way and provide the only nonstop service from SFO to Long Beach, which some travelers see as a less-crowded and less-complicated alternative to Los Angeles International Airport.
