OMG! Car thief busted after seen fiddling with electronic device

Driving while texting is dumb enough, but a man cops saw fiddling with an electronic device in Bernal Heights on Tuesday was behind the wheel of a stolen car, police said.

The suspected car thief was allegedly driving in the area of 30th and Mission streets, weaving back and forth while a patrol car was riding behind him about 8:10 a.m.

Officers observed through the rearview mirror that the suspect was looking down toward his lap, “as if he was on an electronic device,” police said.

Police ran a records check as the car pulled into a gas station, which revealed the car was stolen. Cops approached the vehicle to find that the thief had fled. Witnesses said the suspect had run and jumped a nearby fence.

Cops found suspect under a staircase where he was promptly arrested.
