Oil spill ship moves, but still in Bay

Officials spent less than an hour today hauling the patched up Cosco Busan from a San Francisco pier to a much less expensive anchoredarea, U.S. Coast Guard officials said today.

The 900-foot container vessel, undergoing repairs after crashing into a San Francisco-Oakland Bay Bridge tower on Nov. 7, was transferred at noon from Pier 70 south of AT&T Park to Anchorage No. 9 in San Francisco Bay, according to Coast Guard Lt. Anya Hunter.

The repairs are only temporary and included patching a 1,200-square foot gash in the ship, Hunter said.

Inspectors approved the ship's repairs Saturday, allowing the vessel to move within San Francisco Bay. The boat cannot leave the Bay while civil and criminal investigations are pending, according to Hunter.
