Obama takes deficit message on road next week

Next week is deficit week for the White House.

President Obama is ramping up efforts to sell his deficit plan to the public, taking his message on the road for a series of town hall meetings — an early preview of one of the major themes in his re-election campaign.

From the White House Press Office: "On Tuesday, the president will hold a town hall in Northern Virginia.  On Wednesday, the President will hold a town hall at Facebook Headquarters in Palo Alto, Calif.  On Thursday, the President will conclude his three-day town hall tour in Reno, Nev., discussing the ways the leaders in Washington can come together and meet the expectations of the American people."

Previewing the events to reporters Friday, White House Communications Director Dan Pfeiffer said Obama would showcase the difference between his plan and the blueprint put forward by congressional Republicans.

He added that the stop at Facebook was not aimed at younger voters but was an "attempt to reach people who may not get their news through traditional news sources."
