Obama strikes at Republicans on budget

FAIRLESS HILLS, Pa. – President Obama on Wednesday used a town-hall meeting about energy to blame House Republicans for the congressional budget stalemate and threatened, "If we don't reach common ground by Saturday then the federal government [will] shut down."

"We want everybody to act like adults and quit playin' games," Obama said. "I do not want to see Washington politics stand in the way of American progress."

He said Republicans are stalling a compromise by focusing on ideological issues such as abortion and environmental regulations.

"I've got Democrats mad at me. ... We have agreed to a compromise," an outwardly frustrated Obama said. "But somehow we still don't have a deal...because some folks are trying to inject politics in what should be a simple debate about how to pay our bills."
