Oakland shooting victim has life-threatening injuries

A man is suffering from life-threatening injuries after being shot in the head in East Oakland on his way home from work shortly after midnight Wednesday, according to Oakland police spokeswoman Holly Joshi.

Joshi said the victim, whose name is not being released at this time, was driving home with several other men near the 1200 block of 66th Avenue at about 12:10 a.m. when he was shot by an unknown suspect.

Joshi said the suspect was with at least one other person but police believe the suspect was the only shooter.

After the victim was hit by gunfire, he drove a short distance farther before he crashed into a wall, according to Joshi.

The victim is in critical condition at a local hospital, Joshi said.
